Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything Connecticut homeowners ask us before getting started — answered in plain English.

How long does hardwood floor installation take?

Most residential hardwood installations take one to two days depending on the square footage and whether subfloor prep is needed. Rooms under 500 sq ft are typically completed in a single day. We'll give you a precise timeline during your free in-home estimate.

How much does hardwood flooring cost in Connecticut?

Hardwood installation in Connecticut typically ranges from $6 to $14 per square foot for labor, depending on the wood species, pattern complexity, and subfloor condition. We provide free written estimates so you know the exact cost before any work begins — no hidden fees.

What's the difference between hardwood and engineered hardwood?

Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood and can be refinished many times over decades. Engineered hardwood has a real wood surface layer over a plywood core, making it more stable in humid environments like Connecticut basements and kitchens. Both look identical once installed — the difference is in performance and where you install them.

Can luxury vinyl plank (LVP) go over existing tile or hardwood?

In most cases, yes. LVP can be installed directly over existing hard, flat surfaces as long as the subfloor is level and structurally sound. We assess this during our in-home consultation and will tell you honestly whether going over or removing the existing floor is the better option for your space.

How much does LVP flooring cost compared to hardwood?

LVP typically costs 20–40% less than solid hardwood for both materials and installation. It's a practical choice for high-moisture areas, households with pets, or homeowners who want the hardwood look at a lower price point. We can show you samples of both during a free in-home visit.

Can old hardwood floors be refinished instead of replaced?

Often yes — and refinishing usually costs significantly less than full replacement. If your hardwood is structurally sound with at least a few millimetres of wear layer remaining, sanding and refinishing can make it look brand new. We'll assess your floors during the consultation and give you an honest recommendation.

How long does floor sanding and refinishing take?

Sanding and refinishing typically takes two to three days — one day for sanding and prep, one to two days for applying and curing the finish coats. You'll need to stay off the floors for 24 hours after the final coat. We use dust-managed equipment to minimize mess throughout the process.

Do I need to move my furniture before you arrive?

We ask that large furniture be moved out of the rooms being worked on before our arrival. We handle moving smaller items and always protect surrounding furniture and belongings from dust using covers and barriers. If you need help moving furniture, let us know in advance and we'll work something out.

Will flooring installation be dusty or messy?

We use dust-managed sanding equipment and take careful steps to seal off work areas before cutting or sanding. Wall hangings are removed, furniture is bagged or covered, and we clean the site thoroughly before we leave. Our goal is to leave your home as clean as we found it — just with better floors.

How do I get a flooring estimate?

Simple — request a free in-home estimate through our contact form or by calling (475) 344-8789. We come to you, measure the space, assess the subfloor, and give you a clear written quote with no obligation and no pressure. Most estimates take about 30 minutes.

What flooring is best for homes with dogs or kids?

Luxury vinyl plank is generally the best choice for households with pets and children. It's 100% waterproof, highly scratch resistant, and easy to clean. If you prefer the look and value of real wood, engineered hardwood with a hard aluminum oxide finish is also a strong option. We'll help you compare both during your consultation.

How long do hardwood floors last?

With proper care, solid hardwood floors can last 50 to 100 years and be refinished multiple times throughout their life. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 25 to 50 years depending on the thickness of the wear layer. LVP generally lasts 15 to 25 years under normal household conditions.

What areas of Connecticut do you serve?

Our primary service cities include Bridgeport, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield, Greenwich, Danbury, Westport, Milford, and New Haven — but we travel throughout the state for the right project, and occasionally take on select jobs outside Connecticut.
